About the Client

The client is a global leader in materials science and digital identification solutions with a workforce of approximately 35,000 employees worldwide. The company serves diverse industries including apparel, retail, e-commerce, logistics, food and grocery, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and home and personal care.

The Challenges

During the shift from SAP to Oracle Fusion, the client chose not to build direct real-time interfaces with its legacy Warehouse Management System (WMS) to reduce implementation costs.

This created a challenge:

Goods receipts against purchase orders had to be entered manually in Oracle Fusion.
The same supplier lot details then had to be entered separately in the legacy WMS.
Manual dual entry introduced delays, inefficiencies and possibility for errors.

The business needed a fast, reliable, and scalable solution that could:

Capture supplier lot numbers in Oracle Fusion during goods receipt.
Support multiple lot entries in a single step.
Automatically generate a new output file in a format directly loadable into the legacy WMS.
Ensure inventory consistency and traceability across both systems without requiring real-time integration.

The Solution

Working alongside the primary SI partner, our Oracle SCM consulting team designed and delivered a streamlined integration approach:

OIC-Based Integration
Enabled warehouse users to upload CSV files containing supplier lot details mapped to quantities for goods receipt in Oracle Fusion.
Custom ESS Job
Automated the processing of the uploaded file, performing the goods receipt and generating an output file in the required format for the legacy WMS.
Automated Lot Number Generation
Eliminated manual steps by correlating supplier lots with Oracle-generated lot numbers, ensuring accuracy.
Seamless File Exchange
Allowed the legacy WMS to consume output files directly, removing the need for manual file preparation.

This design struck a balance between cost savings (avoiding real-time interface build-outs) and operational efficiency (removing manual bottlenecks).
