About the Client

The client is a global mining leader that manages large-scale metal production. It is a multi-commodity company focused on phosphate, aluminum, gold, copper, and industrial minerals, producing fertilizers, aluminum, and various other metals for diverse industries worldwide.

For quality assurance, finished goods that fail to meet specifications must be scrapped and tracked efficiently. Migrating from Oracle E-Business Suite to Oracle Cloud required reimagining the legacy Scrap Form while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless integration with Manufacturing Execution systems.

The Challenges

The client's Scrap Form, originally developed in Oracle E-Business Suite, was used to manage finished goods scrap processes. As part of their Oracle Cloud upgrade, they needed the same functionality in the new environment.

Key Challenges:

Legacy Dependence: Scrap tracking logic was tied to Oracle EBS and not available in Oracle Cloud.
Finished Goods Validation: Only lots produced in Closed batch status should be scrapped, requiring system validation.
Integration with MES: Scrap notifications had to be shared in real-time between MES and Oracle Cloud ERP.
Compliance Risks: Without proper controls, inaccurate scrap reporting could affect financial and operational accuracy.

The client needed a robust Oracle Cloud-based solution to replicate and enhance this process with real-time system integration.

The Solution

We designed and deployed a custom scrap management solution in Oracle Cloud, integrating seamlessly with MES systems.

Key Solution Elements:

Custom Webpage via VBCS
- Developed a user-friendly webpage embedded in Oracle SCM Cloud for entering inventory and lot details to be scrapped, built using our VBCS Development expertise.
Automated Scrap Transactions
- Configured logic to transfer on-hand quantities from finished goods lots into a custom scrap item created specifically for capturing scrap data.
MES-ERP Integration
- Enabled Receive Scrap Notification transactions through Oracle Integration Cloud to ensure real-time updates from MES.
