About the Client

Client is a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in shredders, laminators, binders, staplers, and workspace management products. The client aimed to modernize its manufacturing operations to reduce inefficiencies, optimize material usage, and establish scalable workflows.


The Challenges

The client’s production environment faced multiple bottlenecks that increased costs and slowed throughput:

  • Inefficient Work Orders – Operations required parallel processing across multiple work centers, but the absence of a structured system created sequencing errors, status mismatches, and delays.

  • Redundant Sub-Assemblies – Multiple routings and duplicate work orders created confusion and operational complexity.

  • Manual Pack Transactions – Operators had to intervene repeatedly to process pack activities, increasing cycle times and error rates.

  • Wood Yield Loss – Standard wooden components were consumed without proper optimization, leading to 40%+ material wastage and higher costs.

  • Lack of Systematic Optimization – No integration existed with optimizers, making it impossible to suggest right-sized wooden components automatically.

The client needed a comprehensive solution that could enable parallel processing, automate redundant activities, and integrate with optimizers to reduce material wastage.


The Solution

Our team extended Oracle Cloud Manufacturing with Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) and Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS), while designing a custom framework for optimization.

Key solution elements included:

  1. Parallel Processing Enablement

    • Developed a Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS) based custom UI to let operators report operations across work centers in real time

    • Integrated Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) triggered processes validated each operation, ensuring accurate capture in Oracle Manufacturing

  2. Automation of Transactions

    • Automated validation and transaction of eligible work order steps, eliminating repetitive manual work

    • Automated pack transactions once conditions were met, improving accuracy and freeing operator time

  3. Wood Optimization Framework

    • Created a custom solution to identify work orders requiring optimization based on work center and date

    • Generated reports compatible with third-party optimization software

    • Integrated recommendations back into Oracle Manufacturing to replace standard wood with right-sized optimized components

  4. Integration & Tools

    • Oracle Cloud ERP for Manufacturin

    • Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) for process automation

    • Oracle VBCS for operator UI

    • Optimizer software for wood yield recommendations
