Inventory reconciliation improvement for Cheese Manufacturing Industry

dual UOM, ERP-WMS integration, Oracle WMS Cloud, JDE ERP, inventory reconciliation

A cheese manufacturing company had difficulties to reconcile their inventory between warehouse management system (Oracle WMS Cloud) and ERP system (JDE) . one of the major challenge to bring two systems in sync was the unit of measure could not be aligned, as ERP system uses dual UOM (LB or Cases) while out of box WMS system only supports single UOM (CASE was implemented). Transactions happened in two systems could not integrated properly due to different UOM was used. Especially many cheese items are in variable weights, transaction in cases creates discrepancies in weight.

The key features and benefits of this solution are outlined below:

  1. Enable WMS system with secondary UOM

The solution lays the foundation to allow dual unit of measure in WMS, with primary UOM set to be in sync with ERP system, same time allowed secondary UOM using custom configurations which enabled tracking of both UOM from end to end for all transactions (inbound receiving, warehouse movement , inventory counting and outbound shipping etc), documents and reporting

  2. Enhanced integrations with dual UOM

Inbound integration for documents (PO, WO,SO) and outbound integration for transactions (po receiving, inventory movement, adjustments, SO shipments) all enhanced to carry primary UOM and secondary UOM. It allows both ERP and WMS systems to transact, record and produce documents in same quantity and units.

    Results

  • More accurate inventory : Inventory syncing between WMS and ERP systems are significantly improved.

  • Reduction in transaction failures: With inventory aligned in two systems and transactions flow with same unit of measure, there are much less transaction (integration) failures.

  • Smooth business operations : Business users do not get blocked by different errors from inventory or transactions, they were able to focus on their actual business which improved their productivity and efficiency.
